Orlando the "Community of Tomorrow" received its name with the opening of Walt Disney World in 1971. Orlando continues to flourish with new businesses and recreational activities moving into the area each year. Today, it is Florida's largest inland city with over 54 lakes and dozens of parks scattered throughout the city.

In 1881 Hamilton Disston paid the State of Florida $1,000,000 to drain land south of Orlando by cutting a canal into East Lake Toho in exchange for four million acres of land. By it's completion in 1894 the water level had lowered by eight feet exposing thousands of acres of land.
