In 1969 the Guiness Book of Records recorded 768 consecutive days of sunshine in Clearwater. Its beach has miles of glistening white sand and water sports of all kinds are readily available. Charter a fishing boat, go scuba diving, water-skiing, or even attempt wind-surfing. Those of you who prefer onshore fishing, grab your spot along Clearwater's Big Pier 60.
The Clearwater Marine Science Center was established to rescue and rehabilitate marine mammals which were beached or were injured in boating accidents. The Center's research of the underwater world helps us understand and protect all of the natural resources it provides. Dolphins, giant sea turtles, and a variety of local fish, all set up in their natural environment, are on display for people with marine interests.
The Ford Ironman World Championship chose Clearwater for the second consecutive year as host for over 1800 of the worlds greatest athletes to compete. These athletes swim 1.2 miles in the Gulf of Mexico, bike 56 miles throughout Clearwater, and run 13.1 miles.
The Clearwater Jazz Festival, held each October at Coachman Park along the waterfront, is the largest free jazz festival in the state. Over 26 hours of live music entertain over 60,000 enthusiastic spectators.
Ruth Eckerd Hall offers a wide variety of performing arts from Broadway productions to classical music, pop concerts and Christmas plays.
